Would you think that goalkeepers have more explosive actions in a match than midfielders and defenders?
One of our new clients certainly wouldn’t but he just sent us a bunch of data and to his big surprise his goalkeeper is right up there with the forwards. Over a series of matches, the keeper has 20 explosive actions on average and whereas the field players’ explosive actions to a large degree comes from running it’s not the case with the keeper.
Actually, none of them comes from running and it shines a light at the keeper's fundamentally different movement pattern and the load that is overlooked in most cases. However, getting a more accurate picture of the keepers’ work profile will definitely make it possible to optimize the way we plan their training sessions. In our tracking, goal keepers play with the N11 leg tag on their shooting leg, and we’re beginning to see exciting data patterns arise.
We have begun profiling the goal keeper and will keep sharing insights. We’re currently looking into how kicks affect explosive actions: What’s the share of kicks in the explosive work? What type of dives bring what kind of load?
